Answers to common questions about our aluminium stretcher system.
What profile depths are available?
The range includes 22mm PQ, 32mm HD and 40mm Museum aluminium profiles. Explore the individual product pages for the original descriptions, lengths and component information.
How do I staple canvas to an aluminium profile?
Staples are held by a specialised backing strip that slides into the rear of the aluminium profile, rather than being stapled directly into the aluminium. The strip can be reused and replaced.
How is canvas tension adjusted?
Mechanical keying at the corners and braces allows fine-tuned adjustment. The specialised resin self-locking wedges slide into the corner system to expand the frame and tighten the canvas.
Why choose aluminium rather than timber?
The aluminium profiles are designed to provide strength and stability where changes in heat and moisture can affect timber. They are also suited to repeated reuse and large canvas formats.
Will the aluminium oxidise over time?
All aluminium profiles are powder coated, giving a smooth, refined finish while safeguarding the aluminium against oxidation.
Can the stretchers be taken apart?
Yes. The stretchers can be disassembled and reassembled, making it possible to move, ship and store oversized canvases.
Can aluminium be recycled?
Aluminium is recyclable and can be recycled repeatedly. The aluminium profiles provide a recyclable alternative to timber stretcher profiles.
Where are AL Stretchers designed and made?
Our stretchers are designed and developed in Australia and carefully crafted in Sydney using Australian aluminium.
